Top Stops In Arizona On Route 66

The Grand Canyon National Park is one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World and should not be missed.  Even if you don’t want to take the whole tour, just drive to the Grand Canyon and at least get some pictures while you are here.  There are few other natural creations across the US that are as awe inspiring as the Grand Canyon so this is must stop for any route 66 cruiser.  You will come to Williams, Arizona on your Mother Road journey and this is considered to be the gateway to the Grand Canyon.  There are some other cool stops in Williams, but they are all small potatoes compared to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon Caverns has been a popular tourist destination since the old days of Route 66.  This set of caverns, said to have been discovered by accident in 1927 when a railroad worker going to a friends house full in a funnel shaped hole, are really neat and well worth a visit.  This hole ended up being just one opening into the caverns that turned out to be a whole lot more than a simple hole in the ground.  At its deepest the caverns go over 1500 feet underground.  You can stop by and take a guided tour of these underground caverns right off Route 66 near Seligman, Arizona.
