You can make a day of it in Barstow. As we approach the end of Route 66, we have the choice of going the real Route 66 where all the small business and mom and pop shops were in the heyday or travel the freeway route just to get to end. You know we are real cruisers, so we are going to go travel the inland way and stop at the great legendary stops along the way.

Wigwam Motel, located in Rialto, California is one of the original attractions of Route 66. Rialto still has many businesses that can be visited; the best and well know is the Wigwam Motel, the motel rooms are fashioned after Indians Teepees. The hotel is still open. Rialto is a suburb of Fontana and they meet some 60 miles east of LA. Fontana now also boast of several Route 66 sites can been seen but unfortunately has seen better days and some have been closed. You will see many orange stands along the route starting here so if you need some substance, get some fresh citrus right off the side of the road.Rancho Cucamonga is a place where you have a lot of stops, from the Virginia Dare winery to a place called Route 66 Memories that is a gift shop. Both are on Foothill Blvd. There are other famous motels and hotels along Foothill and Hellman. As we go we will see many more mom and pop shops that have been here for many years and hold some of the Mother Roads special history. Next, we will drive threw Claremont, Pomona, and La Verne before we make to our next stop.  However, don’t be afraid to make a short detour in any of these towns if you see something of interest.
