The Top 10 Stops On Route 66 In California
Hollywood! You can’t visit LA without stopping in Hollywood. The famous “Hollywood Walk of Fame” used to honor Hollywood stars with a star based on their career and lifetime achievements in motion pictures, live theatre, radio, television, and/or music.Other than the stars along the sidewalk at there is always some entertainment going on at the west end of Hollywood Boulevard. Mann’s Chinese is there and you can see all of the hand/foot prints there of your favorite Hollywood star. Another place to visit if your wife will let you is Fredrick’s of Hollywood, and is also on the Boulevard, it has a free museum of lingerie worn by stars of the silver screen.
Santa Monica Amusement Piers, located in Santa Monica, California will be our last stop on Route 66. The Amusement Piers were and are the big attraction in Santa Monica as well as being the end of Route 66. During peek of its popularity, the Amusement Piers was the vehicle that brought people from LA to Santa Monica. Many various small amusement parks on the pier came to be known as the Amusement Piers. The piers even had roller coasters at one point and there were five in Santa Monica and two down the beach. Eventually amusement parks like Disneyland and Universal would prove to be the demise of amusement park piers and the Santa Monica Pier of 1909 is the last remaining one on the North Bay.
Many of the places to visit on the Mother Road in the Golden State are museums, ghost towns, hotels/motels or diners. We hope this final portion of the trip across the country on Route 66 was as interesting for you as it was for us. There are so many places in southern California to visit along the way, so if you do get the chance to visit, do some research first to find the places you really want to go to.
We are sad to bring our amazing adventure across the country to an end. However, all good things come to an end they say. This cross-county Route 66 journey was definitely a good thing and we had a blast pointing out or favorite spots to you as we made the best cruise in the United States. From big buildings of Chicago, Illinois to piers in Santa Monica, California this was one heck of an experience for us. We only hope that you had half as much fun along the way as we did.
Thanks again for going on this great adventure with us and keep on cruising!
