The Top 10 Stops On Route 66 In Missouri
3. Mural City is another name for Cuba, Missouri and this one is a cruiser’s dream come true! If you are a sightseer, this town is made for you. This city is known for its many murals painted all over town on the sides of buildings. They say this city is “Where Art Meets History” and I think they are right!
You will find many Civil War depictions on the walls of buildings in the town area of Cuba. There are also a variety of other murals including; Bette Davis, Amelia Earhart, the Model T and many others! Enjoy the drive through this town in your own car or take the guided tour in the trolley car style bus.
The Fanning Outpost and General Store is also located in Cuba Missouri. This is the home of the world’s largest rocking chair and is also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. You will find a Route 66 gift shop in the main building and right outside is the world record holding rocking chair. If you are already cursing Route 66 then why not stop on by and check out this amazing shop for some cool Route 66 souvenirs and see the biggest rocker in the world.
4. The Totem Pole Trading Post is a gas station and a souvenir shop all in one. This trading post has been serving distant travelers along Route 66 since 1933 in Rolla, Missouri. The town of Rolla was started when the first house was built here in 1844 so there is plenty of history in this town. Since then, Rolla has become a huge tourist city, because it has so much to offer travelers. There are many wonderful campgrounds, caves to explore and as many gift shops as anyone can handle here, so you may want to play a whole day to explore on this stop.
The Rolla Stonehenge is also another great point of interest in this great city on the Route 66 path. This is a partial reconstruction of the Ancient Stonehenge located in England. It took over 160 tons of granite to build this impressive monument and it really is something to see for all travelers in the area. You had better get ready to ride and we hope you got plenty of rest we have a long shot ahead of us before our next stop in Strafford, MO.
5. Wild Animal Safari in Strafford, Missouri is like going to Africa, but it’s much closer! You will find “lions, tigers and bears oh my” right here, on your Route 66 cruise, if you dare. You can drive your own vehicle through the park and feed man of the wild animals from your hand, right from the window of you car. You won’t find this kind of excitement in a zoo. The selection of wild beasts that you may encounter include; Rhinoceros, Tiger, Lion, Panther, Kangaroos, Wallaby, Hyena, Zebra, Camel, Gaur, Ostrich, Emus, Lemur, Monkey, Deer, Elk, Buffalo, Bison, and more!
