Top Stops in New Mexico On Route 66

San Miguel Mission and Church both are still standing in the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico.  This is the second oldest city to be founded by European colonists in the United States and was established in 1607.  Constructed around 1610, the San Miguel Chapel is the oldest church in the United States.  You will find many museums, galleries and boutiques to check out while you visit this historic church. This was one of the only buildings to stay standing after the whole city was burned to the ground in 1680.  This was due to a revolution by the Pueblo Indians against the Spanish settlers of the time.  The town of Santa Fe has a lot of rich history to explore and is a great place to stop while here in New Mexico cruising the historic Route 66.We wanted to make a quick side not that Las Vegas, New Mexico is almost directly north of you at this point and if you are looking for gambling and girls, you are thinking of Las Vegas, Nevada!  Just didn’t want any of our cruisers to get thrown off by the signs.

Cline’s Corners was originally a mixture between a gas station and a gift shop.  It was built to sit along the intersection of highways 2 and 6.  The Cline’s Corner location has moved more than once and even changed owners since it was built in 1934.  In 1937 it moved to a more popular location right on Route 66.  This “jack of all trades” store has never stopped growing.  The Cline’s Corner now employees over 60 people to keep travelers going day and night.  There is not really a city near this location, which is why they say it is “In the middle of nowhere and on the road to everywhere!”  You will find this cool roadside stop right off Route 66 at exit 208.Today you can still stop here to fuel up, check out the Route 66 gift shop, get your car worked on and even get a hot meal (not the best food around, but it’s hot).  This isn’t our favorite all-in-one location anywhere on the Mother Road, but if you are cruising across New Mexico on Route 66, this one is a must see!
