Top Stops in New Mexico On Route 66
Wrights Trading Post located in Albuquerque, New Mexico has been doing business for more than 100 years and is still going strong. This adobe building has been around since 1907 and has built a long list of loyal customers throughout time. The owners say that they have been able to stand the test of time by building trust with customers and only bringing real and authentic American Indian art to the masses. There is a lot to see and do in Albuquerque so don’t miss out on Laguna Pueblo, the many ghost towns, the Aluquerque Aquarium, Albuquerque Museum, Rio Grande Zoo and of course old town (the heart of Albuquerque’s heritage) while you are passing through. This is going to be one of the more populated areas as we drive across New Mexico and there is plenty more to find here for the true explorers taking the Route 66 trip.
Mystery Mountain, a location that not many Americans are aware of, is a interesting stop just a few miles off the main drag of Route 66 and is worth the short drive. Located in Los Lunas, New Mexico this mountain has a stone that has ancient inscriptions dating back hundreds of years. The stone may bring some doubt to who was actually the first explorer of this country, the 100 ton lava stone seems to carry parts of the 10 commandments on its chiseled surface. There are numerous other artifacts and ancient areas to explore in the Rio Puerco Valley but you must purchase a recreational access pass to be permitted to explore this area.
