Top 10 Places To Visit On Route 66 In Oklahoma

7. The Route 66 Road House is said to be the rowdiest Road House in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Well we haven’t visited them all, but we will just take the locals word for it. You will find good eats, live music and of course plenty to drink here.  We love to make stops along the way that allow for some great food, but this one may be a good place to hunker down for the night and enjoy the show.  If you like music, this is a must stop for you on your Route 66 Journey. You will find some all American Rock and Roll and even some Jazz and Blues here on the right night.

8. Fort Reno an old military camp that began in 1874 sits just a few miles off of route 66 near El Reno,  but if worth the extra miles driven to check out this piece of Oklahoma history.  This camp was home to Buffalo soldiers in the Indian Wars ear.  You will find an old style wedding chapel and a visitor center here that offers re-enactment videos of battles that took place here and a lot more.  This is just a really neat place to break up the route 66 drive and we think that it is a very interesting place to take in some American history.  The historic interpreters will be glad to give you a tour of the grounds and tell you about the history of the great Fort Reno.

9. The Route 66 Museum is our next stop and it is only one museum in the complex of museums located in Elk City, Oklahoma. There is another Museum located in Clinton, OK but is the state museum and this one is the bigger and better of the two. Along with all sorts of local history, you will find some amazing exhibits here that are sure to satisfy any museum lover.  Not to mention from what we can tell the largest Route 66 Sign in the world that sits right outside of the museum. So don’t think for a second you are going to miss this one on the drive by because you will not!  You will also find the National Transportation Museum, The Farm and Ranch Museum and The Little Blacksmith Museum.  These are all great within their forte, but of course we highly suggest you stop at the Route 66 Museum first and foremost.
