Top Stops In Texas On Route 66

Jericho Gap – As you continue across the Texas panhandle on Route 66 you will come to a town called Groom.  This town has the look and feel of a city right out of the 50’s, small mom and pop shops still line the streets in the downtown area that give a real look back in time to passers by.   This area is best known for a small muddy stretch of road known as the Jericho Gap.  This road connects Jericho to Groom, it was an important road to locals trying to gain access to the Mother Road and all it had to offer.  Now it a regular country road and part of the original site is on private property, but there are still many stories from the locals who had to make this 18 mile journey on the old muddy field road before a standard road was implemented.
Big Texan Steak Ranch – This location is a Route 66 legend and has more fun to offer than many other locations combined.  There is so much to be done while visiting the Big Texan Steak Ranch we suggest you make this an over night stop if you can fit it into your schedule that way. The Big Texan Steak Ranch offers a gift shop, motel, restaurant, it’s own limousine service, a huge Texas shaped swimming pool and so much more! From huge meals like the 72 oz steak challenge (finish it and its free!) to the homemade pie and fudge and even the rare delicacy of mountain oyster (yuk) you will not leave this place hungry.  You won’t believe the huge oversized cow statue outside and before you leave you won’t believe you have never heard of this place before. There is so much here, we almost forgot to mention you will also find a RV Park for those of you traveling large and live entertainment in the Big Texan Steak Ranch. This is one of those stops along Route 66 that really is and “experience” not just another destination!
